- The City of Denison has over 12,700 water services
- As of January 2026, 11,690 (92%) services have been inventoried.
- The remaining 1,070 (8%) of services are classified as "Unknown" and will be inventoried by February 2026.
- If an "Unknown" service line is determined to be a replaceable material, the property owner will be notified within 2 weeks.
Approximately 1,070 service lines still need to be inspected and added to the inventory. These lines are classified as "Unknown." These 1,070 lines will require more in-depth investigation, such as digging a small hole in the grass, removing concrete at the meter box, or removing a sidewalk panel. The contractor must restore property to pre-work condition or better, and addresses will be notified of construction prior to work commencing.
Notices were mailed in November 2025 to addresses determined to be lead, galvanized, or unknown in Phase 2 of the project. These addresses also received an invitation to a project update meeting to notify them of next steps and what that means for their property.
Construction plans for replacing all lead and galvanized lines will be developed as soon as the remaining Unknown service lines are identified.
Denison applied for and received $10M in funding from the Texas Water Development Board for this project.

Timeline
Phase 1 of the inventory project was completed in October 2024 and included approximately 50% of all Denison service lines.
Phase 2 of the inventory is scheduled for completion by February 2026.
Construction for necessary line replacement is scheduled to begin in March 2026.
