Pollution Prevention Objectives

Pollution prevention (P2) is reducing or eliminating waste at the source by modifying production processes, promoting the use of non-toxic or less-toxic substances, implementing conservation techniques and re-using materials rather than putting them into the waste stream.

The Environmental Protection Agency identifies P2 as a key policy in national environmental protection activities. Environmental Services is responsible for inspecting facilities that store, manufacture or use hazardous, toxic or polluting materials. Inspectors ensure that facilities utilize and dispose of hazardous materials properly, thereby preventing environmental contamination.

The Environmental Services Team is committed not only protecting our receiving streams but, also to working in cooperation with local facilities. The Team may provide educational materials, chemical storage reviews and information to assist facilities with regulatory compliance.
