Sub-Standard Structures

All structures are required to be maintained in a structurally safe condition. Structures include fences, accessory buildings, retaining walls and all other types that have been constructed.

City Ordinance 13-29. Buildings and structures

Obstructions

An obstruction is the placement of an object, building of a structure or planting of vegetation within the City right-of-way or in the public street. Examples of obstruction may be vegetation, basketball goals or storage pods.

Obstructions allow for clear sight lines at traffic intersections and reduce congestion on neighborhood streets, making them safer for vehicular traffic.

Additionally, public utilities are built within the right-of-ways. In the event of a repairs, items built or placed within the right-of-ways which are removed for repairs are not the responsibility of the City to replace.

Trash and Recycle Bins

Residential solid waste containers and recycle bins should be placed on the curb no earlier than 6:00 p.m. the day prior to pick up and no later than 6:30 a.m. on the assigned pick-up day per ordinance. The bins should be removed from the curb within twenty-four hours of pick-up. When containers are not at the curb for pick-up, they should be stored within six (6) feet of the residential structure.

Code Compliance Officers frequently find bins left at the curb days after their scheduled pick up. These bins are often overturned or can be washed down the curbline during heavy rain which can create obstacles for motorist, bicyclists and pedestrians. Please help do your part in keeping bins off the street and stored properly when not in use.

Stagnant Water

Standing water in a swimming pool or on a property is prohibited to be left in a stagnant form. Water should be drained through the clean out of the property and is prohibited from being drained into the street and storm drainage system.

Stagnant water is a breeding ground for mosquitos and can produce an objectionable odor.
