City Announces Citizen Financial Assistance Through CARES Act

Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act

Denison (City of Denison), Texas – To aide residents who have been impacted financially by the COVID-19 pandemic, the Denison City Council has approved the use of CARES Act funds to be dispersed to community non-profit organizations and churches. Funds are available for residents facing economic hardship and can be used for expenses related to housing.

“This is a unique opportunity for the City to partner with our local churches and non-profit organizations to assist Denison residents,” remarked Mayor Janet Gott. “There are many local organizations with existing programs in place which we can utilize rather than create a whole new program.” Initially, the City will distribute $50,000 in funding and the resolution approved by the City Council provides for up to $150,000 in assistance through December 30, 2020.

The City of Denison will be distributing funds provided through the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act to local non-profit organizations as well as local church outreach programs to aide citizens who may be suffering from loss of income or unemployment due to COVID-19. The requirements for eligibility are as follows:

  • Must be a citizen of Denison, Texas (proof of residency required).
  • Must provide proof of loss of income or unemployment due to COVID-19.
  • At risk of possible foreclosure or eviction (if applicable).

Financial assistance may not be used to meet property tax requirements, except in the case of assistance to prevent foreclosure.

Residents facing economic hardship may contact 2-1-1 for a referral to these organizations with funding.
