It is the duty of the board to assist the chief building official in the administration of the various codes adopted by the City and to hear appeals taken by persons or firms aggrieved by a decision of the chief building official or his inspectors in the administration of this chapter, when such appeal is provided pursuant to the expressed or implied language of the Code of Ordinances.
The City Council consists of 7 members elected by the residents of the City of Denison. Four of the council members are elected from single member districts, places 1 through 4, and 3 are elected at large, including the mayor and places 5 and 6.
The Civil Service Commission's duties are to appoint Fire and Police department personnel for the City of Denison, make promotions, and hear appeals from the administrative decisions of those departments on disciplinary matters.
The responsibilities of the Convention and Visitors Bureau Advisory Board are to encourage tourism in the Denison community, to raise the public visibility of local activity which may attract visitors to the City, and to promote and enhance tourism in the convention and hotel industry as authorized by Chapter 351, Texas Tax Code.
Denison Sister Cities shall be and is a non-profit corporation under the laws of the State of Texas. Denison Sister Cities is organized exclusively for charitable, educational, and/or scientific purposes within the meaning of Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code, or the corresponding sections of any future federal tax code.
The Denison Firemen’s Relief and Retirement Pension Board of Trustees provide administration of the fund based on the laws of the State of Texas, Texas Local Firefighter’s Retirement Act, and the U.S. Government.
The Main Street Advisory Board's duties are to encourage participation in all aspects of the Main Street Program and to advise and support the Main Street Project Manager.
The Main Street, Inc. Board of Directors shall have nine members at large. The function of the Board of Directors is exclusively for charitable, educational and or scientific purposes under Section C(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.
The Denison Public Library Advisory Board consists of seven members and serves in an advisory capacity to Council and staff on matters related to the Public Library and oversees the Denison Public Library Endowment Fund. Each Board member must adhere to the city residency requirements.
The responsibilities of the Zoning Board of Adjustment is to hear requests and make special exceptions, in appropriate cases and subject to appropriate conditions and safeguards, to the Zoning Ordinance.
