Magnolia and Fairview Cemetery Fence Improvement Project
The Magnolia & Fairview Cemetery Fence Improvement Project is an ongoing initiative aimed at enhancing the security, protection, and overall appearance of the cemetery grounds. This project was made possible through the generous support of the community, fully funded through private donations.
This project reflects the strong commitment of our community to honor and protect our shared spaces, and we are deeply grateful for the contributions that made this effort possible. Work is progressing as planned, and the completed improvements will serve as a lasting testament to the community’s dedication and care.
Gates, Security, and Operating Hours
To enhance security and accessibility:
- Gate Configuration - The site will feature multiple gates, with only the main entrance at Fairview being automated
- Operating Hours - In accordance with city ordinance, the cemetery will be open from dusk until dawn
- Access Control-
- During staffed hours, all gates will remain open
- After staff departure, the automated gate will close but remain accessible until dusk via a push-button system
- At dusk, the system will disable entry to comply with ordinance-based closure
- If the preferred technology is not feasible, a basic timer system will be implemented to open/close the gate at dawn and dusk
- Manual gates will be secured by field staff at the end of their shift (traffic for the remainder of the day will enter through the main entrance with gate automation)
- Security - Security cameras will be installed to monitor the premises
Fence Installation and Adjustments
- Fence: Modifications for the original fence surveyed lines were made to address conflicts with electrical poles. The fence line had to be offset just south of the central entrance to align with the center and main entrances.
- Gate: The first design called for a swinging gate at the main entrance, but a sliding gate was decided to be more effective after further consultation with the contractor it was decided that a sliding gate would be less prone to damage and require less preventative and annual maintenance reducing future financial concerns.
- Installation Progress:
- Fairview: The 6-foot iron fence was fabricated offsite and is 99% complete, and the installation is now approximately 75% complete with the masonry and cast stone sign being completed on October, 13, 2025 .The columns are fully set and new concrete footing was installed at the main entrance for the sliding security gate.
- Security Camera installation: The contractors are working with the City’s IT to install a security camera at the main gate. Some of these components may be finalized after the completion of the fence.
- Magnolia: The fence is 100% complete with exception of gate installation and the only remaining work left is the cast stone sign which will be completed October 13, 2025.
