Food & Drink Policy

Last Updated: April 2024

The Denison Public Library strives to create a welcoming, clean and comfortable environment for the public. It is consistent with this goal to not allow food in the building.  Beverages to be consumed in the library must have a lid and be consumed in a responsible and considerate manner.

Nonalcoholic beverages may be consumed by patrons seated at the work tables and in armchairs throughout the library, provided the beverage has a cap or a securely fitting lid on it.  Patrons must use extra care when consuming beverages near library computers and will be held responsible for any damage caused by their beverages to library equipment.  Library staff have a constant and absolute right to direct patrons to immediately remove any food and beverages that do not conform to this policy in library staff's sole judgment.

Food and beverages may be consumed by groups using the library's two multi-use rooms: the Eisenhower Meeting Room and the Katy Room. Children should not have food and drink during programs.

Delivery to Library buildings (e.g. pizza delivery), excessive quantities of food or drink, large group meals, and other distracting or disruptive activities are prohibited.  Consumption of alcohol is prohibited in Library buildings, with the exception of legal-aged guests at authorized Library events where alcohol is served.  Cooking, cooking appliances, and open flames are prohibited in Library public spaces.  Patrons bringing food and beverages into the library are responsible for disposing of empty containers and trash in appropriate receptacles, they must clean up any spills or messes they create, and they must bring any more serious damage to the attention of library staff immediately.

Distribution of food or drink in Library public spaces is not permitted unless authorized in advance by Library Administration.  Direct questions should go to Haley Powers by email hpowers@denisontx.gov or phone 903-465-1797.

Patrons who violate this policy may lose library privileges or incur limitations on their future ability to bring food or drinks into the library.

The City of Denison Public Library reserves the right to amend this policy at any time.
