Denison hires Greg Smith as New City Manager
Denison, Texas – The City of Denison’s Mayor and Council announced during the June 21 Council Meeting that Greg Smith has been selected as Denison’s new City Manager.
“The City Manager search has been exhaustive, literally a six-month process, but we could not be more excited about the addition of Greg Smith to our team and our community,” said Mayor Janet Gott. “He brings a wealth of knowledge and experience, as the result of 20 years as a city manager. His energy and enthusiasm are contagious and we look forward to our next chapter, under his leadership, in our journey to become the community of choice.”
Greg Smith comes to Denison with over 20 years of Municipal Government experience. Mr. Smith has served as the City Manager of Jacksonville, TX, for the past three years. Prior to his arrival in Jacksonville, Smith was the City Manager/Administrator of Shenandoah, Angleton, Henderson, and Overton.
“I am honored to have been chosen to be the next City Manager of Denison. I look forward to the opportunity to serve this great community and am excited about working alongside the Council, staff, and other members of Team Denison,” said Greg Smith.
Greg is a member of Texas City Manager’s Association and serves on the Membership and Public Policy Task Force. He also has served in several leadership roles with the Houston-Galveston Area Council on transportation-related committees. In addition, he is a member of the Jacksonville Rotary Club where he is currently finishing his term as President.
Greg received a Bachelor’s degree from Stephen F. Austin State University and a Master’s degree in Business Administration from LeTourneau University. His outside interests include biking, boating and he enjoys being outside. He is the father of two adult daughters who both live in the Houston area.
Mr. Smith fills the position that has been vacant since January 2021. Bobby Atteberry has served as Interim City Manager during this transition period.
