**** IMPORTANT INFORMATION REGARDING ANNOUNCING CANDIDACY ****

If you plan to run for a public office in Texas, you MUST file a Campaign Treasurer Designation form with the City Clerk's Office when you become a candidate.  A "candidate" is a person who knowingly and willingly takes affirmative action for the purpose of gaining nomination or election to public office or for the purpose of satisfying financial obligations incurred by the person in connection with the campaign for nomination or election.  Examples of affirmative action include, among other things, the making of a public announcement of a definite intent to run for public office in a particular election, regardless of whether the specific office is mentioned in the announcement.  Additionally, the law provides that you MUST file this form before you may accept a campaign contribution or make or authorize a campaign expenditure, including any personal funds.

The next scheduled General Election for the City of Denison will be held on Saturday, May 4, 2024.  The purpose of the election is to elect Council Members to Single Member District 1, Place 1, Single Member District 2, Place 2, and At Large, Place 7 (Mayor), each to serve a three year term.

The City Council also called a Special Election to run alongside the General Election at their February 5, 2024 City Council Meeting to fill Single Member District 4, Place 4, and At Large, Place 6.  The application period for the Special Election runs Tuesday, February 6, 2024 through 5:00 p.m. on March 4, 2024, with the Special Election taking place on Saturday, May 4, 2024.

The City Clerk's Office will accept applications (see information below as to filing dates, etc.) from qualified persons interested in running for any of the above-referenced places during the filing period designated by state law, as shown below.  During the filing period, the City Clerk's office will receive completed and notarized applications at the City of Denison City Hall, 300 W. Main Street, Denison, TX 75020, during regular business hours of 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, excluding City holidays.
