All work involving new roofs and re-roofing work must be permitted. Homeowners that homestead residential property may do the work themselves. The Grayson County Appraisal District website must indicate that you own the property and that it is homesteaded. All other roofing permits can only be issued to a registered general contractor.
The permit application must describe all work that is to be done. If decking or rafters are being replaced, you must state so in the permit application. If you discover that decking or rafters are damaged after removing the old roof, you must contact us to modify the permit. Please be aware that only 2 layers of shingles are allowed on the roof. We will require all shingles to be removed if more than 2 layers exist when the final inspection is performed.
Any metal roof installed within the City of Denison must be a standing seam metal roof with a minimum of 26-gauge material or thicker. All roofing material must have a factory applied finish designed to withstand rust and corrosion. The factory applied finish must be earth tone in color. Corrugated materials and bright finishes such as galvanized or zinc are expressly prohibited.
