
How do I go about filing municipal court charges?
A report needs to be made with a police officer. Then the officer will tell you when to be in court to file. Defendant needs to check with the clerk at the front desk of the police department to make sure the report has been entered in the computer before charges can be filed. The city attorney has to approve the charges and the court clerk will type up the complaint. You will need to sign the complaint and a summons will be issued for the offender. If they plead guilty, they will be assessed a fine and that will be the end of it. If they plead not guilty, a hearing will be set and the defendant will be notified to be here.
