Employee Benefits
This is an outline of the benefits provided to the City of Denison employees. If there are differences between this information and the plan documents or City policies, the plan documents and City policies will govern administration of benefits. This information does not guarantee any benefits or employment with the City of Denison

Health Insurance
The City of Denison provides medical insurance for all permanent full-time or part-time employees as approved by the City Council. The current provider is the Texas Municipal League Intergovernmental Employee Benefits Pool. The City pays 100% of the cost. Medical Insurance coverage begins on the 1st of the month following the date of hire.
Retirees will pay 190% of the insurance premiums for themselves and their dependents. The premiums for dependent coverage is as follows:  Dental and Vision is also available to purchase.

Dental and Vision Insurance is provided, however, the employee is responsible for the costs.

Basic Life/Optional Life
A Basic Life amount of $10,000 dollars is provided by the City.  Optional Life is based on the age of the employee and annual salary.  The employee is responsible for the costs.  Optional Life may be purchased in increments of 1, 2, & 3 times annual salary with a $300,000 maximum.

Flexible Benefits Plan
The Section 125 Flexible Benefits Plan helps employees save money for medical and/or dependent care expenses. This benefit allows employees to deduct money from their paychecks on a pre-tax basis for the following expenses:

  • Insurance premiums paid for employee dependents

By electing this benefit, employees are choosing tax-free benefits, as the cost of these benefits is deducted before taxes.

Holidays, Vacation and Sick Leave
Holidays include New Years Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, the day after Thanksgiving, Christmas Day, and an employee’s Birthday

10 days vacation per year
15 days vacation after 10 years
20 days vacation after 20 years

10 hours sick leave per month with no maximum accumulation
Up to 90 days sick leave paid at retirement

Retirement
The City of Denison participates in the Texas Municipal Retirement System (TMRS). TMRS is a qualified tax deferred retirement. You are automatically enrolled as a member of TMRS when you begin working full-time or 1,000 hours per year. You will have 7% deducted from your paycheck pre-tax, and the City matches the member contributions at a 2 to 1 basis. You are vested in TMRS when you have earned 5 years of service credit. You are eligible to retire when you are vested and are at least age 60 or if you have 25 years of service credit at any age.

Deferred Compensation
The City of Denison makes available a 457 Deferred Compensation Plan through ICMA for employees who want to defer additional pre-tax money for retirement. Employees may enroll in deferred compensation at any time.

Direct Deposit
You may choose to have your paycheck deposited directly into your checking account. With direct deposit you avoid the hassles of finding time to get to the bank on payday.

Credit Union

Any City employee who is employed full-time is eligible to become a member of the Texoma Educators Federal Credit Union located at 530 W Woodard, Denison, Texas.

Employee Incentive Program
The City Council of the City of Denison has adopted an Employee Incentive Program designed to encourage employees of the City to participate in the manner in which the employee’s job is done by providing a mechanism for employee input. Suggestions are evaluated and should in be incorporated into the workplace, an award of additional vacation time that is commensurate with the value of the suggestion will be given.

Educational Assistance
The City of Denison encourages the educational, vocational, and professional development of its employees by granting financial assistance. The City shall refund cash costs for courses of instruction taken by permanent, full-time employees to improve their skills, knowledge, and abilities relating to their present job.

Longevity Pay
Longevity pay is $5.00 additional pay each month for each year’s continuous service as an employee of the City for each years service up to 25 years.
