The image of the heart has often been used as a symbol in Mexican and Latin American art. El Corazon (the heart) can serve as a symbol for courage, sprit, love, affection, compassion, sympathy, or as a term of endearment. Artists have approached the heart as an expression of burden, whimsy, broken, sentimental, devotion, and sacred or divine love.
