Retaining walls that exceed 4 feet (4') in height must be permitted by the City of Denison and designed by a Professional Engineer. All work must be inspected to verify compliance with the engineered drawing. Construction of a retaining wall is expensive; however, repair of a wall that has failed, or is beginning to fail, can be even more expensive than the initial cost to construct the wall. That is why it is very important that the wall is designed by an engineer and inspections performed by city inspectors to verify compliance with the engineered design.
Retaining walls that are less than 4 feet (4') in height do not require a permit or inspection.
